Long-time educator and respected community advocate Jim Brownell currently serves as the Chair for the 2015 International Plowing Match, in addition to actively supporting many other community events and organizations.

The 2015 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo will take place near Finch on September 22-26, 2015.

Jim is well known as the former MPP of Stormont-Dundas-Charlottenburgh, first elected in 2003 and holding that position until his retirement in 2011.

Mr. Brownell currently also holds the position of Honourary Lieutenant Colonel of the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders Regiment.

A former teacher with the Upper Canada District school Board, Jim served his community for 14 years as a councillor, deputy-reeve, and reeve in the Township of Cornwall and Township of South Stormont. Jim has been actively involved in various committees and commissions dedicated to the cultural and recreational development of his community.

He has served as a Commissioner to the St. Lawrence Parks Commission, and was a past director with Cornwall and Seaway Valley Tourism and the Raisin Region Conservation Authority. He has served on the Library Board for the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry and was appointed to the Township of South Stormont's Planning Advisory and Waterfront Development Committee in 2000. Jim served as president of the Lost Villages Historical Society and Museum from 1992 to 2003.

He has been actively involved with many church committees and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. In 2001, Jim was awarded the Ontario Heritage Foundation's Heritage Community Recognition Award and in 2002, his community honoured him with the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Medal. Jim is a graduate of the University of Ottawa, where he received a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Education, and a Master in Education.

Jim is married to Paulette Charlebois. They have two wonderful daughters, Jennifer and Alison.
